Ginger and frankincense, two ancient ingredients, are making waves in modern skincare. Let's explore their remarkable benefits for your skin and some DIY skin care recipes to try:

Fresh Ginger Root

Ginger:

1. Anti-aging: Rich in antioxidants, ginger fights free radicals and reduces signs of aging.

2. Improves circulation: Enhances blood flow, promoting a healthy glow.

3. Evens skin tone: Helps fade hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

4. Acne-fighting: Contains antibacterial properties to combat breakouts.

Frankincense:

1. Wrinkle reduction: Strengthens skin and improves elasticity.

2. Scar healing: Promotes cell regeneration, helping to fade scars.

3. Balances skin: Regulates oil production, beneficial for all skin types.

4. Anti-inflammatory: Soothes irritated skin and reduces redness.

These simple yet, effective ingredients are power packed with benefits, let’s dive deeper into the brightening and regenerative properties of these two plants:

Frankincense & Scar Healing:

1. Cell regeneration: Frankincense contains compounds that stimulate cellular turnover. This promotes the growth of new, healthy skin cells, which can help replace damaged tissue in scars.

2. Collagen production: It boosts collagen synthesis, a crucial protein for skin structure and healing. Increased collagen can improve scar appearance by making the skin more elastic and smoother.

3. Anti-inflammatory properties: Frankincense reduces inflammation, which can help prevent excessive scarring during the healing process.

4. Skin strengthening: Regular use can strengthen the skin, making it more resilient and less prone to scarring from future injuries.

5. Reducing dark circles: Its skin-lightening properties might help in reducing the appearance of dark circles

Ginger & Hyperpigmentation:

1. Antioxidant action: Ginger is rich in antioxidants like gingerols, which can protect skin from free radical damage that often leads to dark spots.

2. Circulation improvement: By enhancing blood flow to the skin, ginger helps deliver more nutrients and oxygen, promoting overall skin health and evenness.

3. Tyrosinase inhibition: Some compounds in ginger may inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production. This can help prevent and reduce dark spots.

4. Skin brightening: Ginger has natural skin-lightening properties that can gradually fade existing hyperpigmentation when used consistently.

5. Exfoliation: Ginger has mild exfoliating properties, which can help remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter skin underneath.

All of the properties of these two wonderful plants make them highly effective in treating the following:

Fine lines and wrinkles

Periorbital (under eye) dark circles

Scars & Hyperpigmentation

Acne prevention and treatment

Here are some DIY treatments you can try at home to add ginger and frankincense to your routine today:

For face:

  • Toning face spritz: in a clean cup or small spray bottle, add 5-6 drops each of frankincense and ginger essential oils followed by 10 ml or 2 tsp of glycerin, mix until oil is evenly dispersed (PRO TIP: add oil to glycerin BEFORE adding the water in this solution, this will keep the mixture from separating the oil and water molecules.). Next add 82.5 ml or 2.75 oz of aloe vera juice or distilled water, stir/shake well to combine. This recipe is shelf stable, but it can be kept in the fridge for extra cooling effect. Use on fresh clean skin before applying your moisturizer, can also be used for a midday pick me up for tired or inflamed skin.

For eyes:

  • Overnight Eye oil: add 4-5 drops each of ginger and frankincense essential oils to 15ml, or 1 tbsp of jojoba oil (or any carrier oil of choice). Apply oil to a cotton pad and gently blot onto fresh clean skin under the eye area.

For scars:

  • Mix a drop of frankincense essential oil with a carrier oil and apply to scars daily.

For hyperpigmentation:

  • Create a mask using grated fresh ginger mixed with honey, apply for 15 minutes, then rinse. (PRO TIP: add a few drops of frankincense essential oil to honey before mixing with grated ginger)

Remember, everyone's skin is different. Always patch test new products and consult a dermatologist if you have concerns.

It's important to note that while these natural ingredients can be effective, results take time and consistency. Also, always protect your skin from sun exposure, as UV rays can worsen both scarring and hyper-pigmentation.

Incorporating these ingredients into your skincare routine can lead to healthier, more radiant skin. Enhance your DIY routine by adding products containing ginger or frankincense, like our Ginger & Frankincense 3-n-1 Lip Balm.
